Google ad on main page

I'm sure you've noticed the Google ad on the main page. Hopefully it's relatively unobtrusive. Well, the reason I'm writing is that I'm considering removing it. The trouble is, they don't send money to me for having the ad on the site unless I reach $100, and having the ad there earns me an average of about 6 cents a day based on click-throughs, a rate that is actually steadily declining. At this rate, I won't get paid until long after the Mayan armageddon. I'm not suggesting that you go clicking on ads to try to push me over their payout threshold. I'm sure they'd suspect something if that were to happen, and it's kindof unethical anyway. No, my question to you is: do you know of any way that a web site like mine could support itself without driving away players or getting in everyone's face with ads and popups? I'm open to suggestions.
